One of the keys to being successful at anything is the M-word, motivation, without it it is very difficult to get things done. Sometimes it’s easy to get motivated, for example I’m always very motivated to get up and go to the bar with a book for a coffee, no problem there. However, getting motivated for exercise or meditation is not always so easy.
I think it’s important to have a vision of where you want to be in life in say a year’s time, for example, you’ve done a rough plan of how you’re going to get there but if you don’t follow the steps you’ve set out to do then it just won’t happen. A year may seem like a long time but it’s not and those steps done everyday will make a difference. Getting fit and healthy doesn’t happen overnight you have to work at it constantly so if you don’t get yourself moving time will pass and the vision you had of this fit healthy person will be just that, a vision.
Part of getting motivated for me is understanding that each step is important, that daily exercise is important to the whole me, it benefits me in many ways. It also helps of course to listen to upbeat music, have quotes around the house that give you that get up and go, you tube videos of people doing amazing things are a great motivator.
The greatest motivator of all is this:
Imagining yourself on your deathbed wishing you had done all the things you couldn’t get motivated to do.
